La Unión de Organizaciones Campesinas e Indígenas de Cotacachi (UNORCAC) ha sido protagonista de una serie de movilizaciones en Imbabura, marcadas por exigencias sociales, tensiones políticas y controversias mediáticas.
¿Qué es la UNORCAC?
La UNORCAC es una organización indígena de segundo grado, sin fines de lucro, que agrupa a 48 comunidades de Cotacachi. Está afiliada a la FENOCIN y ha sido clave en la articulación de demandas sociales en la región.
Motivos de la movilización
Las protestas iniciaron como respuesta a la eliminación del subsidio al diésel, afectando directamente a sectores agrícolas y de transporte comunitario. Además, se exige justicia por la muerte del comunero Efraín Fuerez y la liberación de 12 detenidos en Otavalo.
Advertencias desde las marchas
Durante las movilizaciones en Ibarra, dirigentes de UNORCAC lanzaron advertencias contundentes:
- “Si no hay diálogo, el feriado nos tomamos Ibarra”.
- “Este es el primer aviso. En la segunda venimos a desbaratar”.
Estas declaraciones generaron temor entre comerciantes y ciudadanos, quienes cerraron sus negocios por precaución.
Polémica con el alcalde de Ibarra
Un video viral mostró al alcalde Álvaro Castillo presuntamente haciendo comentarios ofensivos hacia los indígenas. UNORCAC respondió con un comunicado que condena el racismo y la violencia institucional, exigiendo disculpas públicas. La Alcaldía negó la veracidad del video, alegando posible manipulación con inteligencia artificial.
Diálogo: ¿puente o barrera?
A pesar de los llamados al diálogo, las reuniones entre UNORCAC y el Gobierno no se han concretado. La organización insiste en que el encuentro debe ser en un espacio intercultural, con garantes nacionales e internacionales.
Impacto en la provincia
Las movilizaciones han provocado bloqueos viales, desabastecimiento de productos básicos y suspensión de clases. La tensión sigue en aumento, mientras la ciudadanía espera una solución pacífica y efectiva.
