La provincia de Imbabura vive una de sus peores crisis en años. Tras más de tres semanas de paro nacional convocado por la CONAIE, los bloqueos viales han dejado a miles de ciudadanos aislados, sin acceso a alimentos, gas, medicinas y servicios básicos.
Las protestas estallaron tras la eliminación del subsidio al diésel, medida que elevó el precio del combustible de $1,80 a $2,80 por galón. Esto afectó directamente a sectores rurales, productivos y de transporte, generando una ola de movilizaciones en todo el país, con Imbabura como epicentro.
La situación se agravó con el colapso del comercio y el turismo. En Otavalo, el 95% de los locales están cerrados. En Cotacachi, mercados como el Jatun Cem no pueden operar. En Ibarra, ciudadanos siguen camiones de gas con la esperanza de conseguir un cilindro. El precio del gas doméstico se ha duplicado.
El Gobierno respondió con un convoy humanitario, liderado por el ministro del Interior, John Reimberg, quien anunció el uso de la fuerza pública para abrir las vías. “Esto se acaba ya”, declaró, mientras 100 vehículos con más de 1.000 efectivos militares y policiales partieron desde Quito hacia Imbabura.
La marcha indígena en Ibarra también elevó la tensión. Miles de manifestantes recorrieron la ciudad con consignas como “Fuera Noboa” y “Justicia para Efraín Fuerez”, el comunero fallecido durante las protestas. Se exigió la liberación de detenidos y se rechazó la propuesta de una Asamblea Constituyente.
El diálogo sigue sin concretarse. Mientras el Gobierno asegura estar negociando con las bases, organizaciones como UNORCAC denuncian falta de voluntad política. Las advertencias de tomarse la ciudad durante el feriado han generado temor entre comerciantes y ciudadanos.
Imbabura sigue aislada. Las vías principales permanecen cerradas, y el convoy humanitario enfrenta riesgos de emboscadas. La crisis humanitaria se profundiza, y la provincia espera una solución que aún no llega.
