Una intensa lluvia acompañada de granizo cayó sobre varios sectores de Quito la tarde del lunes 14 de octubre, generando acumulación de agua, congestión vehicular y afectaciones menores en viviendas y calles del Centro Histórico.
El fenómeno climático se registró principalmente en el centro y norte de la ciudad, donde el granizo cubrió techos, aceras y vehículos, generando imágenes inusuales para esta época del año. Según el Instituto Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología (Inamhi), se trató de una precipitación convectiva, típica de la temporada de transición entre el estiaje y el invierno.
El Inamhi había emitido una alerta meteorológica para la Sierra centro-norte, advirtiendo sobre lluvias de variable intensidad, tormentas eléctricas y ráfagas de viento. La entidad explicó que estas condiciones se deben al ingreso de humedad desde la Amazonía y al calentamiento diurno, que favorece la formación de nubes de desarrollo vertical.
En redes sociales, ciudadanos compartieron videos del granizo acumulado en calles como la Venezuela, Rocafuerte y García Moreno, así como en sectores como San Roque, La Marín y El Tejar. No se reportaron daños graves ni personas afectadas, aunque los organismos de emergencia realizaron monitoreos preventivos.
Las autoridades recomiendan a la ciudadanía mantenerse informada a través de canales oficiales, evitar zonas propensas a inundaciones y tener precaución al conducir durante lluvias intensas.
